ADOPTION PROCEDURES

Step 1: Viewing

Take a look at the animals in our homing blocks. Read the details of the individual animal shown on the kennel card and take note of the animal's name. Return to Reception to complete relevant paperwork. You can not walk through the dog re homing kennels.

Step 2: Paperwork

. You will be asked to fill out a form telling us about your home, family and lifestyle. This is so we can check compatability to the animal in which you are interested.

Step 3: Reserving a pet

If we consider you and your chosen animal to be a suitable match we will introduce you. All members of the family must meet the pet, including any existing dogs (in the case of adopting a dog). If you are resereving a dog you will be asked to re visit that dog on 3 occasions within 4 days before the home visit is put through. Once this is done, you will be given a thank you letter, advised of adoption fees and a home visit will be arranged. If the meeting is unsuccessful , we suggest returning at a later date to look at any new animals available for rehoming. Please respect our qualified judgement if we decide the match between you and your chosen animal is not suitable.

Step 4: Home visit

An RSPCA home visitor will contact you within 7 to 10 days of you reserving your pet to arrange a convenient date to visit your home. This is to confirm your details, ascertain whether all of our re-homing guidelines are being met, offer any additional advice and answer any questions about basic animal care. You will not be advised of the result of your home visit by the home visitor themself but will receive a call from the centre to advise you of the outcome of your home visit and, if appropriate, asked to make an appointment to collect your new pet.

Step 5: Adoption

Collect your new pet! Please allow yourself plenty of time for this process, as there is an amount of paperwork to be completed in your presence. If adopting a dog you must bring with you a disc for its collar with your name and address and telephone number on. You must also bring a suitable collar, lead or carrying basket for other animals.

Step 6: Follow up

Your RSPCA home visitor will contact you in 6 to 8 weeks to arrange a post adoption visit to confirm that your pet has settled in well and will provide any further guidence or advice.
